2020 Season Recap
Oh what a long, long year its been...
This year was truly a year of firsts for us as a league. First (big one) being the use of Discord. For all you geezers out there, Discord is where we migrated at the beginning of the season to try and consolidate our smack talk. Not only did it facilitate the rekindling of old friendships, it vastly improved communication amongst the group despite a few techno snobs never finding their way onto the server (shoutout to Dan who finally logged into the server after winning the championship, fewer distractions maybe?). We also went Zoom for the draft which was a huge hit (2021in person draft anyone?).
We had our very first 2x championship owner. For those of you who don't know, Dan has been a staple to the Kings of Suburbia league. As one of the 4 owners who have participated in every year since this leagues inception, he's the first to double down on the championship trophy. He's also been the only member to never change his teams name since it's inception in 2013. I don't care what they say about Dan, he's a man who knows who he is. Congrats on the 'ship!
We also had our very first global pandemic during a fantasy football season. Despite all the complaints, crying, bellyaching, and worrying (Taco is Password), we made it through to the end without any real problems.
We (as a league) had another record setting year in terms of participation. Here's a breakdown of the 2020 season by the numbers:
22 total trades (compared to 8 total trades in 2019)
Most Trades - Sleepy Gary (7)
Every owner except for 1 (Unnecessary Roughness) was involved in a trade (despite my weekly trade offers, he never gave in...)
354 total transactions (281 in 2019)
Most Transactions - Purple People Eaters (66)
2nd Most - Sleepy Gary (65)
662 total activations (movement within a teams lineup)
Most Activations - Purple People Eaters (120)
2nd most - Sleepy Gary (115)
77 Total IR moves
Most Injured Team - Da Bad Prince (24 moves)
75.3% of all FAAB was spent this year ($753 out of $1000 for all you math wiz's out there).
Dan (Minnesota Leaping Loons) won the championship with a tight wallet, spending only $15 (second only to DeAndre's 3000, who may have lost his password sometime around week 3).
6 owners ended the season with less than $7 FAAB
It looks like you tinkering can either make you one of the best managers in the league (PPE) or one of the worst (SG). I think everyone has officially settled into the FAAB system as several owners went for broke in the first 3 weeks. I think most would agree that the addition of decimal scoring was a breath of fresh air as now I can refresh my fantasy football app after every 1 yard nose dive by my RB's.
I've compiled a few images of the superlatives generated by www.ffrecap.com (if you'd like to check out the page for yourself, just enter our league ID=687226 and you'll be able to play around with some of the more advanced breakdowns). Purple People Eaters has proven again to be not only a great manager, but also the luckiest and best overperformer. We are very fortunate to not have a relatively new player beat us at our own game 2 years in a row so for that we thank you. DeAndre's 3000 was not only this years worst manager, but also the biggest underachiever. Congrats bud, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Despite being the unluckiest manager, Minnesota Leaping Loons came out with a 'ship. Say I Quon't is this years most consistent(ly bad) manager. A theme that seems to be repeating itself year after year.
Next, Positional awards. This one stung the most as both my TE and K that I traded away went to teams that won their respective category. Surprisingly, not too many managers repeated on this section. Minnesota Leaping Loons proved you can win the big dance with great QB, a great flex, and an empty K slot.
One last thing before we close the books on 2020, I want to give a huge shout out to Lucas (Taco is Password). He had a stacked team (mostly thanks to me...), was 10.5 pts away from winning the championship (lost in the second round but far out scored everyone in the championship round), and was probably the most active member of the discord.
Thanks again for the great year! Keep thinking of ways to improve the league and we'll do our best to implement. I'm hoping to change a few things next year (trade processing times for example) but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
CONGRATS 2x CHAMPION MINNESOTA LEAPING LOONS!!!
