Your 2021 league Champion: Beer King
2021 Champion Beer King
2021 Superlatives
2021 Positional Awards
Wells boys, some how some way, we made it through yet another season. I've pushed writing this season recap off long enough to hopefully allow ample time to recover from the agony of defeat that plagues all but one of us each year. Yet somehow by the time September rolls around, we find ourselves on our hands and knees in a candle lit dungeon, wearing nothing but our tightest of whities, begging the fantasy Gods for another paddlin'
It's time to cut through the b******* and get down to brass tax, what everyone has been waiting for: 2021 by the numbers. Last season we had an unprecedented level of activity from our league and you degenerates were somehow able to out binge yourself this year. We posted most league activity of all time yet again. Here's how it broke down:
18 Trades this year (down from 22 last year)
Most Trades - Sleepy Gary (7)
Minnesota Leaping Loons was the only member to not participate in a single trade (for good reason... we'll get into that later).
428 total transactions (354 in 2020)
Most transactions - Purple People Eaters (83)
2nd most transactions - Sleepy Gary (78)
716 total activations (movement within a teams lineup) (662 last year)
Rosterbator award goes to Sleepy Gary with 122 lineup moves
Da Bad Prince was a close second with 103 moves.
85 Total IR Moves
For the second year in a row, Da Bad Prince takes the Fragile Bones award with 21 IR activations.
82.1% of all FAAB was spent this year (up from 75.3% last year)
Owners had an average of $17.90 FAAB left
Minnesota Leaping Loons wins Tightest Wallet again this year, with $80 left.
Before getting into the season recap, lets take a look at some of the notable 2021 season superlatives, generated by www.ffrecap.com (if you'd like to check out the page for yourself, just enter our league ID=687226 and you'll be able to play around with some of the more advanced breakdowns). Minnesota Leaping Loons stands out once again as Best Manager, Overperformer, and (to his ultimate demise) Unluckiest manager. Beer King showed us grit by somehow exploding in the playoffs and earning himself Least Consistent manager. Taco is Password proved being the most consistent doesn't matter if you're consistently a bad manager. Purple People Eater was officially this years Worst Manager. This proves that if you throw enough sh*t against the wall, somethings going to stick (Mr. 83 transactions). My personal favorite, Da Bad Prince was this 2021's Underperformer of the year. Hopefully ESPN.com was the only place he was underperforming this year if you get my drift (the bedroom). The People's Folk proved that it takes more than special teams to win in this league. Beer King showed us that the QB, TE, and K really don't mean anything as he won the ship with the worst at the positions.
This season also had its fair share of bone headed mistakes. Lets take a trip down memory lane and remind ourselves how much egg we had on our faces by the end of the season:
Sleepy Gary drafting Robert Woods with pick #37, one pick before overall WR1 Cooper Kupp.
Taco is Password dropped Mike Williams before week 1. Williams was WR1 after the first 5 weeks.
Purple People Eaters added Jameis Winston Waivers for $26 after week 1. Drops him the following week.
Sleepy Gary dropping James Conner after week 2 for James White, spending $17 FAAB to boot. White injures his hip the following week and is out for the season.
Sleepy Gary added Tony Pollard from Waivers for $28 after week 2.
Purple People Eaters added Rondale Moore from Waivers to BE for $36 after week 2.
Fantasy football Team Trading away Tee Higgins for D'Ernest Johnson just after week 10. Big oof.
(ok so it was mostly just Sleepy Gary and Purple People Eaters being complete idiots in the first 2 weeks. Noted.)
And some of the best moves of the season:
Da Bad Prince drafting Deebo Samuel, 2021 WR2, in the 8th round.
Purple People Eaters added Cordarelle Patterson from waivers for $6 after week 2.
Taco is Password added James Conner from Waivers for $6 after week 2.
The Peoples Folk added Javonte Williams from Waivers for $9 after week 4
Purple People Eaters added Hunter Renfrow from Waivers for $0 just after week 10
Beer King added Amon-Ra St. Brown, Devin Singletary, and Joe Burrow from Waivers for $0 each, week 15, days before the second round of the playoffs began. LEAGUE WINNING MOVES.
I don't think we could have a season recap without taking a look at Minnesota Leaping Loons incredible draft. If the 2021 draft was the Matrix, he was Neo. Its as though he finally began to believe. He finally understood that there was no spoon. As the first round began, the draft clock slowed down and everything simply became 1's and 0's to MLL's owner, Dan Delaney. Lets take a look at his historic draft:
Jonathon Taylor
Austin Ekeler
Justin Jefferson
Cooper Kupp
Josh Allen
Diontae Johnson
Logan Thomas
Ja'Marr Chase
We'll give him a pass with the 7th pick due to injury but his team ended up with the #1 overall QB, #1 & 2 overall RB, and the #1, 4, & 5 overall WRs. But this season isn't about the Goliath that was Minnesota Leaping Loons, averaging a whopping 136.7 points a game. No, this season is about our lowly David, Beer King. With a rag tag group of no names players, averaging a league worst 96.7 points per game. This season should stand as a witness that anything is possible. After starting the season 3-7-0 and facing certain death, Beer King turned things around. With a little bit of luck on top of prudent waiver wire transactions, he ended the regular season on a 4 games winning streak to sneak into the playoffs as a 4 seed. On the backs of Joe Burrow, Amon-ra "The Sun God" St. Brown, and Devin Singletary, Beer King sent shock waves throughout the FF stratosphere with a crushing 148 to 116.96 victory over the heavily favored Minnesota Leaping Loons:
The Championship game brought us unlikely rivals. Beer King who shocked the world in his first season, taking his neglected team all the way worlds biggest stage against Purple People Eaters, a power house fantasy football manager fueled by nothing but smoked meats and paid fantasy football advise articles looking for his second ring in the three seasons. Alas, it was again the unlikely heroes of our tale ( Joe Burrow, Amon'ra "The Sun God" St. Brown, and Devin Singletary) who cemented Beer King into the Kings of Suburbia book of life as League Champion with a decisive 160.14 to 121.36 victory!
Congratulations to our 2021 League Champion Beer King!
